Because

This movie is probably racist, sexist, and homophobic. And I'm gonna talk about it, even though it's not remotely current.

Quick and Dirty with Hellboy

[Author's note: I don't know shit about the comic books off of which everything is based; geeks?]

Hellboy is a great movie franchise, and with Guillermo del Toro continuing as director, I trust it will be a great trilogy. But I just realized Ron Pearlman is 61 (character's origin makes Hellboy a little older) and love interest/actor Selma Blair, clocking in  today at a fine, fine 39, is playing a much younger character. Given that everyone is a consenting adult, I don't have a problem with it. Still, I'd like to see them have a conversation about it sometime:

"Hey, I was born during WWII. I think the Nazis made me or something."

"Hey, I really enjoy the music of Tiffany"

  1. HAH! What's great about this is that I watched Hellboy for the first time, like, two days ago. So clearly we are still creepily connected. Unless I told you. In which case, we are still creepily connected, just for different reasons.

  2. Well, it's just the film, actually. Yes, Hellboy was 'born' December 23, 1944 but in the comics he has nothing to do romantically with Liz and I'm not sure what the film lists her age as, but the comics have it as April 15, 1962. Sorry. I'm a MASSIVE Hellboy fan (both comics and film) and I felt compelled to comment if only to give you a virtual hug for also liking Hellboy. :-D

This is not a forum for the debating of the existence of sexism, homophobia, racism, classism, transphobia, ableism, or any of the other major forms of intersecting oppressions. OMG, THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PLACES YOU CAN DO THAT!

Also, disagree with me and each other all you like! I love that! If you noticed I said something fucked up about oppression, or if your expertise in your own oppression gives you a better view, and if you are feeling generous enough to share that with me!? I embrace that!

Just be respectful. No name calling, No verbally attacking people. Please, my three readers and twenty-five spambots have feelings too, you know.
